cool off in hokkaido

Hokkaido in summer is a breathtaking escape, offering lush landscapes, mild temperatures, and vibrant festivals. The region bursts into color with lavender fields in Furano and sprawling flower gardens in Biei. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike the scenic trails of Daisetsuzan National Park or explore the crystal-clear lakes and hot springs. Coastal areas, like Shakotan Peninsula, offer stunning ocean views and fresh seafood. Sapporo, Hokkaido's capital, hosts lively summer events like the Sapporo Summer Festival, featuring beer gardens and traditional performances. Hokkaido's summer charm lies in its serene nature, vibrant culture, and endless opportunities for adventure.

OUR summer SEASON TOURS

We lean heavily into the Japanese pride in their seasons and name each tour according to traditional East Asian calendars that break the year into 24 micro-seasons called 24 Sekki (二十四節気). Our Shōsho (小暑), or "Lesser Heat" Tour, is scheduled for July 13 - 26, 2025, and the Taisho (大暑,) or "Lesser Heat" Tour is scheduled from July 27 to August 9, 2025, Although the rest of Japan will be sweltering hot, we leave that all behind as we travel in comfort in the northern island of Hokkaido. Our 2 Hokkaido tours are scheduled well before one of the busiest domestic travel periods in Japan, the Obon Festival. which is a multi-day Japanese festival in mid-August dedicated to remembering and honoring the dead. It is a time of homecoming, with families taking part in traditions to respect their ancestors.

hokkaido Activities

Our experiences are for active and adventurous souls who want to participate in activities to work up a healthy appetite for all the yummy foods we eat. Kyushu is blessed with incredible nature and activities to keep guests busy (but not too busy). We observe the Japanese idea of nonbiri (のんびり), which means a carefree or leisurely pace. Here are some of the activities that can be integrated into our spring tours.

Japanese Food!

All things Japanese food are at the core of our experiences. While sushi is undeniably the symbol of Japanese food, our tours expose guests to the wonderful variety of washoku. From Hakata-style ramen (tonkotsu) to the famed kuro (black) pork in Kagoshima, perfectly marbled wagyu in Saga, and delectable seafood in Nagasaki, here is a sampling of some of the foods we will eat on our spring tours.
