Kyushu has it all - mountains, seas, volcanoes, hot springs, delicious food, and, best yet - it's not overrun by tourists (yet). We offer two 12 nights/13 day tours during the autumn season featuring the beautiful island of Kyushu in southern Japan. Autumn in Kyushu is a magical experience, bursting with vibrant foliage, crisp air, and cultural festivities. Explore the breathtaking Kuju Mountains and relax in Beppu's soothing hot springs. Savor delicious seasonal foods like grilled oysters in Itoshima and freshly harvested sweet potatoes. Don't miss the excitement of the Grand Sumo Tournament in Fukuoka. With its stunning landscapes, rich history, and delectable cuisine, Kyushu in autumn is a joyful journey that captivates all your senses.
OUR autumn SEASON TOURS
We lean heavily into the Japanese pride in their seasons and name each tour according to traditional East Asian calendars that break the year into 24 micro-seasons called 24 Sekki (二十四節気). Our Sōkō Tour is scheduled from October 30 to November 11, 2025. Sōkō (霜降) is the 18th of 24 solar terms and is the season with the first frost of the autumn. The Rittō Tour (立冬) is scheduled from November 12 - 24, 2025 and means it is the beginning of winter. In northern Japan they may see the first snow of the season but in Kyushu the air is clean and the perfect time to enjoy the hot springs that makes the southern island popular with Japanese at this time of the year.

autumn foliage SEASON
Traveling in Kyushu during autumn unveils a stunning array of natural beauty and cultural experiences. The island’s landscapes burst into vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold, especially in regions like Aso and Kurokawa Onsen, where the foliage contrasts beautifully with scenic hot springs. The historic city of Nagasaki offers a blend of rich history and colorful autumnal views, while Fukuoka’s parks and gardens provide serene spots for leaf-peeping. The cooler weather is perfect for exploring Kyushu’s volcanic terrain, including the dramatic caldera of Mount Aso. Enjoy seasonal delights such as chestnuts and sweet potatoes at local markets, and experience traditional festivals that celebrate the season’s bounty. Kyushu’s autumn offers a captivating blend of natural splendor, cultural richness, and culinary pleasures.
